GIBarossa Valley

The Barossa Valley is world famous for concentrated styles of Shiraz. Bogan Shiraz is well known to be a quintessential, full bodied style of Shiraz. The two Shiraz vineyards from which this wine is sourced complement each other well – The Marananga block provides intense, old vine produce with particular “blue fruit” offerings. The Nuriootpa block provides more “black fruits.” These two blocks have built this wines strong reputation and style.

The fruit was hand harvested and given time on skins, pressed then put to barrel. Matured in 25% new French oak and the remainder 2 & 3 years old French oak for 15 months. No filtration.

Dark garnet.

Full ripe plums, black cherries, with hints of savoury spice and aromatics.

Fruit driven with smooth, supple tannins. Elegant and velvety with good structure and length.

This wine has a long future, Bogan to the core – prospers for 20 years.

2013 Kaesler 'The Bogan' Shiraz

  • Wine Companion 2017 - 94pt

100% shiraz from Marananga (planted 1899) and Nuriootpa
(planted ’65), hand-picked, 'given time on skins', 15 months in French oak (25% new). There is a moment of calm before the tempest of black fruits and powerful, dry tannins bursts over every corner of the mouth. It is exceedingly difficult to point
the wine, not because of any ambiguity in its black flavours and rock of ages structure, simply its refusal to bow to the winds of change blowing across the Barossa Valley

  • Wine Advocate - 91pt

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2013 Shiraz The Bogan gives a savory nose of beef drippings, Marmite and chargrill with a solid core of black berries and blackcurrants plus a peppery waft. Very big, rich and voluptuously fruit on the full-bodied palate, it delivers a lot of savory fruit and chewy tannins with great length.

  • Wine Spectator - 89pt

Firm, delivering cedar and roasted herb flavors, this has currant and dried berry notes mingling with fresh clay accents and taut tannins on the finish. Hints of sage and rosemary provide an aromatic lift. Drink now through 2022. 1,200 cases made. -MW
