2018 Stonehorse by Kaesler Cabernet Sauvignon

$25.00

2018 was a great vintage in Clare Valley with favorable conditions during flowering meaning we saw good fruit set on the vine.  The good conditions followed into the growing season and resulted in a strong vintage, especially for red wines like Cabernet Sauvignon with great colour and flavour development.  The fruit for the Stonehorse Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from our estate vineyards in the Polish Hill sub region of Clare Valley.

Eyes: Dark crimson colour.

Nose: A lifted and bright bouquet of plums and mint chocolate.

Mouth: A mid to full weight palate, mouth filling with rich peppermint patty chocolate upfront, and lovely grippy tannins with a solid underline of mocca from the French barrels

Body: Mid to full weight

Grape Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon

Region: Clare Valley, Australia

Vineyard Soils: Loam over clay

Vine Age: 35 years old

Alcohol: 14.5%

pH: 3.59

Acidity: 6.1 g/l

The fruit is machine harvested in the early mornings at optimum ripeness then crushed and destemed.  The fermentation is around 7 to 9 days and once completed the wine is pressed to tank and let rest for a few days.  Half of the wine is matured in 3 and 4 year old French barriques. A wine to enjoy in its youth, however, it will happily live for a further 10 years.
