2016 Kaesler ‘Avignon’ Grenache Mourvedre Shiraz

$35.00

The ancient history of Grenache is well understood and re-told many times, what is not known so well is the equally as old yet vastly different paths Mouvedre has taken. These two varieties formed part of the initial collection bought to the Barossa as warm and dry environs are prevalent in Australia. At Kaesler, we retain and respect varieties and blends. This vintage we decided on a Grenache, Mouvedre, Shiraz blend.

The 2016 vintage of the Avignon marks 15 years since the first release, 2001. The name Avignon is a cheeky (yet reverential) nod to the great French wines of the Southern Rhône Valley; “Rhone varietals” Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre (Mataro) are the backbone of famous blends such as in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, just up the river from the city of Avignon. At Kaesler we have some of the oldest and most precious vine material of these varieties which are perfectly suited to the Barossa climate.
